Who writes this site

Every page is written by Scooter M., an enthusiast — someone genuinely interested in this category. Not a certified instructor, not a marine professional, and not a team.

We do not claim credentials we do not hold and we do not claim tenure we cannot substantiate. You will not find a claimed expert panel, a claimed team of testers, or a number of years anywhere on this site.

The five rules

1. We never claim to have tested anything we have not tested. We have no test lab, no owned units and no premises, and every page says so where it matters. This is the rule that would end the site if we broke it.

2. We never type a price, a rating or a review count. Those render from live retailer data or they do not appear. When the data goes stale, the numbers disappear on their own and the page falls back to “check price.” There is no state in which this site shows a remembered figure.

3. Every factual claim is sourced. Specifications come from the manufacturer’s published documentation, cited per product. Regulations are named by section. Where a maker does not publish a figure, we write that instead of filling in the cell.

4. Aggregated buyer feedback is labeled as such. We write “buyers repeatedly report,” never “we found.” Reporting what recurs across hundreds of purchases is useful; presenting it as our own assessment would be a fabrication.

5. Every list names something to skip. Every product on this site carries a “who should skip it” note. A publisher that never says “don’t buy this” is a catalog.

Independence

No sponsored placements. No product appears on this site because someone paid for it to appear. We have never accepted a paid placement and the offer would be declined.

No free products. We accept no samples, no loans and no review units. This is partly principle and partly practical: accepting gear would create exactly the obligation our “we have not tested this” stance is built to avoid.

Commission does not affect ranking. Products are scored against four published criteria per category, shown per-criterion on every card. Commission rate is not among them. Full detail on the disclosure page.

We recommend the cheaper option when it is the right one. Buy the gel cushion rather than the seat system. Keep your package paddle. Use foam blocks rather than buying crossbars. Those cost us money, and they are the most honest evidence we can offer that the commission is not writing the copy.

Corrections

We will get things wrong. Manufacturers change products without changing part numbers, specifications get misread, and regulations are amended.

Tell us and we will fix it. The contact form has a dedicated option for corrections and for prices that look wrong. Those go to the front of the queue.

When we correct something substantive:

• The page is corrected.
• The “facts re-checked” date on that page is updated.
• Where the correction changes a recommendation rather than a detail, we say so on the page rather than editing silently.

Three dates, and what each one means

Most sites show one date and it usually means nothing. We show three, because they answer different questions:

• Updated <Month Year> — when the page’s content last changed.
• Facts re-checked <date> — when a human last verified the page’s claims against their sources. This never moves on a rebuild and never on a price refresh. A freshness date a script can bump is a fabrication with extra steps.
• Prices verified <date> — when the price data on that page was last fetched from the retailer.

Refresh cadence

• Prices — refreshed daily, automatically. Stale data self-destructs after 48 hours.
• Roundups — reviewed quarterly for availability, discontinued models and new entrants.
• Legal and regulatory guides — reviewed twice a year, and immediately on any rule change we become aware of.
• Kit pages — totals checked monthly. A kit total is the site’s signature claim, and a wrong one is a broken promise.
• Trust pages — annually, plus on any policy change.

What we will not publish

• Testimonials or customer reviews of this business. We have no customers to quote and we will not invent any.
• A star rating for Drift & Dime. None exists.
• Review or rating structured data about products. We did not perform the evaluation that markup would assert. Our on-page scores stay on the page.
• A fifty-state legal table. Those rules change and a stale table is worse than none. We point at the federal regulation and tell you to check your state.
• Medical, legal or professional advice. Where safety and regulation come up, we cite the source and say plainly that it is not legal advice.

Reader privacy

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages people read and which buy links get clicked. We do not sell data, we do not run display advertising, and there is no newsletter harvesting email addresses. Full detail on the privacy policy.
