The safety disclaimer, which is the important one

Paddling carries a real risk of injury and death. Drowning, cold-water shock, hypothermia, capsize and entrapment are genuine hazards, and no article on this site substitutes for instruction, judgment or appropriate equipment.

The information here is general and educational. It cannot account for your boat, your water, your weather, your fitness or your experience. You alone are responsible for deciding whether to go out and what to take with you.

Where we discuss safety equipment, follow the manufacturer’s own instructions over anything written here — particularly for inflatable PFDs, which have published limitations on where and by whom they may be used.

Legal and regulatory information

Nothing on this site is legal advice.

We cite federal regulations by name and section, and we say repeatedly that state rules go further and are the ones that get enforced. We deliberately do not publish a state-by-state table, because those rules change and a stale table is worse than none.

Verify current requirements with your own state boating agency before you launch. Regulations change; this site may lag.

Accuracy, and its limits

We take accuracy seriously — our published method and editorial policy set out exactly how. But:

• Specifications come from manufacturers and can change without notice, sometimes without a change to the model name.
• Prices come from retailers and change constantly. Every price here carries the date it was verified, and stale data is removed automatically after 48 hours. Always check the current price at the retailer before buying.
• Scores are our editorial assessment against published criteria, not test results. We have not tested this gear and we say so on every page.
• We make mistakes. Tell us and we will correct them.

The site is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.

We are not a party to any transaction you make with a retailer. Orders, payment, delivery, returns, refunds and warranty claims are entirely between you and them. We cannot resolve an order problem and have no access to your order.

We link to manufacturer documentation, regulations and retailers because citing sources is the point. We do not control those sites, and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices.

The text, structure and original photography of this site are the property of Drift & Dime. You may quote short passages with attribution and a link. Republishing pages or substantial extracts without permission is not permitted.

Product names, brand names and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used here for identification only. Their use does not imply any endorsement of this site by them, or by us of them beyond what the text actually says.

Product images, where shown, are supplied by the retailer’s product data feed. Editorial photography is licensed stock; credits are recorded in the project’s source repository.
